“JH English Monthly Writing Competitions – Karen Zhang”

Huili JH English Department are continuing to hold monthly writing competitions. January’s challenge was to write a series of three poems, one quatrain each, that celebrate Spring Festival. We’re very pleased to have Karen Zhang from G7A with us today who earned third place in the competition! She is our first returning competition winner, as Karen earned first place in the ‘Importance of Travel’ competition. We welcome you to listen to Karen as she interviews with Mr. Speers and ushers in the Year of the Tiger!

Third Place Poem Below;

Poems about Chinese New Year by Karen Zhang 7A

Chapter 1 – The excitement of reunion

As the dawn awoke,

the sonorous firecrackers covered my voice.

When these warmest wishes came,

the bright lights shone on our warm tears and red faces.

Chapter 2 – The loneliness of wanderers

People are falling into a festive atmosphere except me.

These rain and snowflakes are impure and piercing.

What can I show to my family – my achievements – how?

Not these slender salaries from a lonely wanderer.

Chapter 3 – Welcome, 2022

We will pick up a new petal for our lives

As they stop regretting about those lost times.

As the sherbet starts to melt,

Another lively spring will arrive by herself.

You could be on featured on Dukebox in the future too if you participate in our writing competitions! Our competition this month is “Information Leaflet on Qing Ming Festival.”
